In my recent search for malicious websites, I found Mergechain.co.in. This site is very deceiving in that it forces you into subscribing to its push notifications which then floods your device with ads.
These ads they are can not be only dangerous and irritation the site – employs various tactics to make you believe that you are signing up for some useful service and instead, you are allowing the site to bomb you with pop-ups that may take you to a scam web page.
What Is Mergechain.co.in?
Mergechain.co.in is a fake website designed to trick users into subscribing to its push notifications. It does this by displaying fake error messages and encouraging users to click “Allow Notifications” to fix the issue. Once allowed, the site bombards you with ads every time you use your browser.
How Does It Work?
Fake Notifications
To achieve this, the site uses fake warnings and alerts that will make you click on the ‘allow’ button.
Annoying Pop-ups
You will then start getting spam ads every now and then after allowing the notifications.
Bypassing Pop-up Blockers
This is because once you allow notifications, the site avoids the pop-up blocking features of your browser.
Why Are You Seeing These Ads?
If you happen to notice pop ups from Mergechain.co.in then it means you have agreed to receive notifications from this site. The site uses tactics such as fake error messages, redirects or hidden buttons to deceive you.
