How to Fix the ERR_CACHE_MISS Error in Chrome Browser

Encountering the ERR_CACHE_MISS error is a problem for users of Chrome. This error occurs when the Chrome browser fails to retrieve a cached web page copy. There could be reasons behind this issue, such as updates made to the web page since its last caching situations where the page cannot be cached or even instances where the cache is complete or corrupted.

Understanding the ERR_CACHE_MISS Error

When faced with the ERR_CACHE_MISS error, Chrome usually presents a message asking users if they want to reload the page. This is due to the browser’s intention not to load a version of that page.

How to Fix the ERR_CACHE_MISS Error in Chrome Browser

If you’re facing this issue, here are some comprehensive steps you can take to resolve it.

Reload the Web Page

When you reload a web page, you’re refreshing the content. Most web browsers have a button for this, usually represented by a circular arrow symbol.

You can also use keyboard shortcuts to reload; on Windows or Linux, press F5 or Ctrl + R; on a Mac, press Command + R.

Another way is to click on an empty part of the page and choose “Reload” or “Refresh” from the menu that appears.

Alternatively, click on the address bar where the website’s URL is shown and hit Enter to reload. For browsers, there’s usually a reload icon that you can tap near the address bar. Remember that reloading might erase any data you’ve entered into forms unless the website saves it, so save your progress before refreshing.

Remove Faulty Chrome Extensions

  • Launch Chrome.
  • Input chrome://extensions into the URL bar and press Enter.
  • Disable all extensions, then re-enable them one by one to pinpoint the problematic one.
  • Click the ‘Remove’ button to delete the problematic extension permanently.

Clear Browser Data

  • Start Chrome.
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete or input chrome://settings/clearBrowserData into the address bar.
  • Choose Browsing History, Download History, Cookies & Other Site Data, and Cached Images & Files.
  • Set the Time Range to ‘All Time’ and click ‘Clear Data’.

Update Chrome

Ensure you’re running the latest version of Chrome. While Chrome typically updates automatically, you can manually check for updates by navigating to chrome://settings and selecting ‘About Chrome’.

Force Close Chrome

  • Use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc shortcut to open the Task Manager.
  • Right-click on Google Chrome and choose ‘End Task’. Afterward, relaunch Chrome.

Disable Chrome Cache

  • Start Chrome.
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + I to access the Inspect Elements interface.
  • Navigate to the Network tab and activate the ‘Disable Cache’ option.

Reset DNS Settings

  • Open Chrome.
  • Input chrome://net-internals/#dns into the address bar.
  • Click on ‘Clear host cache’.

Reset Chrome Settings

  • Launch Chrome.
  • Input chrome://settings/reset into the address bar.
  • Click ‘Restore settings to their original defaults’, followed by ‘Reset Settings’.

Adopting the methods mentioned above, you should be able to navigate past the ERR_CACHE_MISS error in Chrome, ensuring a more fluid and secure browsing experience.
